Mets vs. Rays prediction: MLB picks, odds, bets for Saturday

Published

on

The Mets are calling up Christian Scott to make his MLB debut against the Rays on Saturday.

Scott, the No. 5 prospect in the Mets’ system, is 3-0 in Triple-A, having struck out 12.79 hitters and 2.13 walks per nine innings.

After relenting one hit in each of his past two starts, Scott is a beneficial plug-and-play to the rotation while the Mets navigate a 13-day run of games.

The 24-year-old will get the pleasure of scraping off a major league mound for the first time indoors against a Rays lineup that is hitting .222 against right-handed pitching at home.

It looks as if the Rays’ long-term moneyball success may be coming to a head.

The DIY approach to roster construction that has kept the Rays atop the AL East for five seasons isn’t producing.

The Rays are last in the division heading into Friday with defensive deficiencies, a frustrated offense and a slew of injuries it can’t compensate for.
