Ja Rule has been accused of cursing the New York Knicks’ chances of taking home their first NBA Championship since 1973.

Though the Knicks took a 2-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday night (May 8), the former Murder Inc. rapper has left fans fearing for the team’s success in the series.

Prior to the game, Ja was filmed lifting and kissing the Larry O’Brien trophy, which is awarded to the NBA champions each year, and saying: “Champions only, baby. Let’s go Knicks!”

Fans reacted in dismay to the clip, with one commenting: “Smh n-gga done cursed us wtf!”

Another said: “Why the fuck did the knicks allow this,” while someone else referenced the Knicks’ mounting injuries during Game 2: “This n-gga holds the chip and brunson and anoby [sic] get injured someone call fif to get the strap.”

This was echoed by another Knicks fan who wrote: “knicks players started dropping like flies. i hate this n-gga.”

This is not the first time that Ja Rule has been accused of cursing an NBA team.

In 2019, he said he was placing a curse on both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings after a disastrous halftime performance was widely mocked by fans.

“You just jinx yourself talking to the GOD this way… your CURSED NOW!!!” he wrote on X (then Twitter) in response to one critic. “You won’t win a championship for the next 30 years… AND KAT IS LEAVING!!! Apologise and I’ll lift the CURSE!!! Kiss of death.”

After the Kings’ social media admin joked: “Where is Ja?,” the rapper directed his powers at that team as well: “Shout out to the base God… @LILBTHEBASEDGOD I’ve channeled my curse powers from him… @SacramentoKings WILL NEVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP EVER.”

Neither team have yet to win a championship since being cursed.

Ja Rule’s longtime nemesis 50 Cent later joked he was working to lift the curse on the Timberwolves, who are partners of his Sire Spirits liquor brand.

“We had a curse! Somebody fucked up, and they let Ja Rule perform at halftime,” 50 cracked while meeting and greeting employees at the team’s offices. “Now, what we’re gonna do is take the curse off!”

Ja responded to 50’s comment by saying: “#RENTFREE Only thing Curtis lifting up is his skirt… 50 been on my di*k he love my style lmao,” he wrote. “And now the curse has been extended.”
