New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has been an incandescent star throughout the 2024 NBA Playoffs. His former teammate Luka Doncic has certainly noticed.

Doncic on Tuesday was coming off the Dallas MavericksGame 1 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. But despite taking a 117-95 blowout defeat to the chin, the Slovenian superstar managed to stay complimentary of Brunson.

Luka Doncic Heaps Praise On New York Knicks Star Jalen Brunson

During his postgame press conference following the Mavs’ Game 1 loss to the Thunder, Doncic was asked about Brunson’s stellar postseason so far. Luka admitted that he’s been watching his former teammate perform under the bright lights of the playoffs.

“Amazing,” Doncic said of Brunson’s postseason thus far. “He’s doing everything for them. I saw the game yesterday. He had a quiet 40. I didn’t even know he had 40 until I looked it up. He gets to his spots whenever he wants. That’s my guy. I’m really happy for him.”

Brunson was a breakout star during the Mavs’ 2022 run to the Western Conference Finals. He averaged 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 18 postseason contests. He was the clear second option behind Doncic. But in New York, Brunson has teared into a bona fide first option for another playoff team.

Jalen Brunson Has Been Everything For The New York Knicks

Brunson was already a top-5 scoring in the NBA during the regular season, averaging 28.7 points per game for the Knicks. He’s turned that up to a whopping 36.6 points per game through seven playoff games played — leading all postseason scorers in that category.

Brunson has also taken the most shots per game at 28.7 ahead of the second-placed Doncic at 24.6. The Knicks star has been the unmistakable offensive hub for his team, which has been sorely depleted by injuries of late.

Given Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau’s reputation of playing his starters deep minutes, Brunson’s usage probably isn’t going to dip anytime soon.
