‘Pat McAfee Show’ defiantly spoils NFL draft pick despite ‘ruffled feathers’

There wasn’t much of an attempt by “The Pat McAfee Show” to avoid tipping the Dolphins’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

After Miami submitted its pick at No. 21 overall Thursday, McAfee — whose “The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular” streamed on ESPN+, the ESPN app, YouTube and TikTok that night — immediately revealed that he knew who the Dolphins planned to select, and his co-hosts proceeded to drop hints connecting back to Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson.

And at one point, former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, a guest on McAfee’s show Thursday, even said Robinson’s name.

Before Belichick’s comment, though, McAfee had initially said they couldn’t reveal the Miami selection on the show because there’d been a “little bit of ruffled feathers.”

Ty Schmit, another member of McAfee’s show on the set, then said, “F–k ‘em,” followed by Connor Campbell — who goes by Boston Connor on the show — asking McAfee what he had for dinner Wednesday night.

“Did you have steak?” Campbell asked. “Did you have chicken? Did you have pork chop, maybe?”

McAfee then said that he prefers the end of the pork chop — with another person on the set describing that as the “edge” area — before Anthony DiGuilio, who goes by Tone Digs, added another layer to the conversation.

“I think Mr. Robinson was the guy that served it to us,” he said, before the group started singing the Simon & Garfunkel song.

When Belichick, about 10 seconds later, predicted Robinson as the pick, McAfee jokingly shouted back, “Don’t do you that, Bill.”

“I was guessing,” Belichick said, defending himself. “I was guessing.”

Belichick received plenty of strong reviews for his presence on McAfee’s show Thursday, and based on an exchange the pair shared at the end, as well as the reality of the 72-year-old entering the 2024 season without a coaching job, it sounds as if he’ll be a guest moving forward, too.

At one point Thursday, he even criticized the footwork of Drake Maye before the Patriots selected the quarterback.

The Dolphins’ addition of Robinson adds to their pass rush under new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, with the 21-year-old joining Bradley Chubb, Shaquil Barrett, Jaelan Phillips and others.

“He was rated as one of the top players in this draft for us,” Dolphins GM Chris Grier told reporters, according to ESPN, “so adding him, especially rushing the passer in this league with all the great quarterbacks and the skill, the ability to rush with four and not have to blitz every down and stuff, that creates an advantage for the defense.”
