Original Häagen-Dazs Shop Reopens After Month-Long Renovations

BROOKLYN, NY – The original Häagen-Dazs store held a grand reopening on Saturday, following a month-long renovation, representatives said.

The iconic ice cream store near on Montague Street marked the occasion by giving out free scoops of ice cream to the public from 2 to 5 p.m.

The shop has been opened on Montague Street for close to 50 years, according to the company.

Highlights of the renovation include a new interior design of the store, additional seating and a mural honoring the founders Rose and Reuben Mattus. Their daughter Doris opened the first Häagen-Dazs shop on Montague Street.

“This mean everything to us, this iconic shop has been here since November 1976 – it has been through many updates and renovations, but we think this is by far the best one, said Adam Hanson, president of Häagen-Dazs Shops.

Ieeshu Sahni and Deepu Wadhawan, long-time owners of the franchise location, said they are both excited that the store is finally reopened.

“We’re happy to be back to open in the Brooklyn community,” Sahni said.

In addition to the opening, Häagen-Dazs introduced a new flavor — the New York Strawberry Cheesecake Dazzler, a layered sundae, with fresh strawberries and graham crackers.

Saul Concepcion, franchise business manager for Häagen-Dazs Shops, said the Montague Street location is “the personification of the America Dream” and is a national treasure for the Brooklyn community.

“We are really excited about this,” he added.

The Montague Street location is now open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
