Liberty at FAU odds, picks and predictions

The Liberty Flames (6-0) and FAU Owls (5-1) meet Thursday in the Field of 68 Tip-off at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena in Boca Raton, Fla. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Liberty vs. FAU odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Flames head into this game with an unblemished record, while covering the spread in all 5 games with a spread. Four of the wins have been on a neutral floor, including a 71-59 win over Charlotte at the Spectrum Center, another AAC opponent. The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 games for the Flames.

The Owls suffered a stunning 61-52 loss as a 23.5-point favorite at home against an unranked Bryant team on Nov. 18. It tumbled in the rankings, but then climbed right back up after topping Butler, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech to win the ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando over Thanksgiving weekend.

FAU is No. 17 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Liberty at FAU picks and predictions

FAU 77, Liberty 72

FAU (-320) will cost you over 3 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward. Betting such heavy favorites is not a good long-term strategy, and you might have a tremendous winning percentage, but your return on investment will be horrible.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

LIBERTY+7.5 (-110) is the lean catching nearly 4 buckets.

FAU -7.5 (-110) looked awfully good at Disney last week, including a 34-point throttling of Virginia Tech of the ACC in the championship game on Sunday. However, the last time we saw the Owls in “The Burrow”, they had an awful shooting performance against a Bryant team which came in with a lot of confidence. Liberty enters with a similar confidence, winning all 6 games, and covering all 5 outings.

OVER 145.5 (-112) is the lean, but go lightly.

The total has gone high in 3 of the past 4 games for Liberty, including a 99-point performance against Maryland-Eastern Shore last time out. The Flames have posted 83 or more points in 4 of 6 games to date.

FAU has already dropped 100 on Eastern Michigan in Boca this season, and the Owls went for 84 or more points against Butler, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech over the weekend.
