‘King’s horses take free rein through London’

The increasingly harsh police crackdowns on the spreading campus protests against Israel’s war in Gaza are featured on several front pages Thursday. Wednesday’s ill-received visit by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) “escalates tension at Columbia,” The Washington Post says. The New York Daily News says with Johnson’s visit, “pressure builds for action” at Columbia. From Texas to California, The New York Times says, university administrators seeking to “prevent encampments from taking hold” deployed police “in tense new confrontations that have already led to dozens of arrests.” 

On a lighter note, The Wall Street Journal leads with a photo showing the “king’s horses take free rein through London” as “members of the Household Cavalry lost their mounts during preparations” for King Charles’ birthday parade.
