Karl-Anthony Towns’ record-breaking start with Knicks has Wolves fans worried | Sporting News
The Minnesota Timberwolves are still working forward Julius Randle into their rotation and fighting through chemistry woes.
Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns is having a historic start to this season with the New York Knicks. So much so, he could be sneaking into early MVP discussions.
As a duo, Jalen Brunson and Towns are atop the league. There have been no chemistry concerns in New York so far this season with Towns.
His recent performance against the Denver Nuggets is a good indicator of how he has been playing for the Knicks. He scored 30 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and shot an efficient 12 of 15. He also added four assists and three steals. With this stat line, he also extends his streak of consecutive games with a double-double to seven.
To add another milestone to his stellar start to the season, according to StatMamba, Towns has now become the fastest player in Knicks history to record 400 points and 200 rebounds. He also is the fastest Knick since the 1965 season to score 400 points.
At this point, Towns is worthy of inclusion in MVP talks. The Knicks are still a top team in the East, but the addition of Towns makes them much more intimidating to opposing teams. He’s top 10 in the NBA in scoring (26.3), third in rebounds (12.6), and is shooting 54.8%.
Some people still criticize his defensive effort, but for some players it’ll never be a strength. He has improved his offense so much; his lack of defense is hardly noticeable.
At the very least, it is the best start Towns has ever had in a season. If he keeps up this pace, it’ll be the best season of his career. As a player who was blindsided by being traded, he surely has had the last laugh so far this season.
