Hubert Hurkacz v Tommy Paul Head to Head
Hubert Hurkacz leads Tommy Paul 1-0 in Tour-level meetings. The Pole won their second-round clash at the 2021 Paris Masters in straight sets.
Hurkacz Ends Popyrin’s Run
Hubert Hurkacz ended the run of Australian lucky loser Alexei Popyrin, winning their second-round match 6-3 6-3 in an hour and 14 minutes to reach the third round.
The Polish number one tallied nine aces, won a healthy 75% first-serve points despite landing 66% first serves, and saved both break points he faced in the match (one in each set).
The first set took 31 minutes and flew by so quickly as both players served impeccably well. But it was Popyrin who was under immense pressure serving second and was broken in the eighth game before Hurkacz served to love for a one-set lead.
Popyrin then had a disastrous start in the first game of the second set, and he never quite recovered. Hurkacz went on to break him again for the match, converting his third match point in the ninth game.
Hurkacz has not lost a match at the desert before the fourth round, having twice been to the quarterfinals.

Paul Powers Past Struff
Tommy Paul also came through his second-round match against a big server in Jan-Lennard Struff. The German had caught a bit of form in recent weeks on the Challenger Tour and won a pair of qualifying matches quite comfortably at the start of the week.
And in beating Quentin Halys in his opener, Struff proved a tricky opponent for the in-form Paul. But in front of a jubilant and exuberant home crowd on Court 3, Paul did not let them down.
It took the World No. 19 just 80 minutes to tear Struff’s game apart. Paul landed 71% of first serves and won 65% of points from them. But it was his second serve that did more of the damage, winning 13 of 15 points. He also saved three of the four break points he faced.
Behind the return, Paul was all over Struff’s second serve, winning 68% of the points. Overall, he broke the German four times, which proved sufficient to clinch a 6-3 6-3 win.
Hurkacz v Paul Prediction and Tip
This is a meeting between two seeded players, both ranked inside the top 20. Hurkacz’s defeats this year have mostly been in deciding set tiebreaks. Paul has the weaponry to hurt the Pole, but we recommend the games market in this one.
