‘Hard Knocks’ clips shows Giants starting trade discussions with Patriots | Sporting News

One of the coolest things about this NFL offseason is the new versions of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” that are/will be coming out, including the offseason installment with the New York Giants that’s airing weekly now. It’s given fans new access to see what’s going on with an NFL team throughout the end of a season and into free agency and the draft.

In a recent episode, HBO shared a moment between New York general manager Joe Schoen and New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf, as the two discussed a potential trade for the third overall pick in the draft.

At the combine, Schoen approached Wolf and made it known that the Giants would like to be involved if the Patriots were thinking of moving the pick before they made their selection. Wolf wisely put the ball back in Schoen’s court.

“We’ve had a couple of teams call, and it’s kind of been this conversation, but no one has offered,” Wolf said. He then asked where the Giants were in the draft order. Schoen confirmed their position and told him that an offer might not come until Day 1 of the draft.

That’s negotiating 101 from Wolf, as he refuses to make the first offer.

It was reported later in the draft process that New England did turn down multiple trade offers for the pick, including one from the Giants that was for their sixth-overall pick and a first in 2025.
