Golf: Herdegen champ Ben Fox makes cut at weather-shortened New York State Amateur

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Reigning Ulster County Men’s Amateur Golf Championship (The Herdegen) winner Ben Fox of the Woodstock Golf Club made the cut at the weather-shortened New York State Men’s Amateur Golf Championship.

Fox fired a 4-over-par 76 in Tuesday’s opening round and made the cut on the number for the low 40s and ties when Wednesday’s second round was canceled due to dangerous weather in the area.

The 54-hole tournament is scheduled to conclude Thursday, July 11, at Wanakah Country Club outside of Buffalo. A total of 68 players advanced to the second round with the final two rounds scheduled to be held on Thursday.

Two-time Herdegen and former Kingston High golf star Donte Groppuso (78) and Wiltwyck Golf Club’s Vlad Olenski (90) both missed the cut.

Aiden Spampinato of Cobblestone Creek Country Club is leading the tournament after shooting a 5-under 67 in the first round.
