Former Gopher safety, Tyler Nubin drafted by New York Giants in 2nd Rd of NFL Draft

Minnesota is becoming Safety-U as Tyler Nubin is the 3rd safety drafted in the last 4 NFL Drafts from the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The New York Giants selected Nubin with the 47th pick in the 2nd Round of the NFL Draft. He was the first safety selected in the 2024 draft. That now makes five seasons in a row that a Gophers player coached by PJ Fleck has been selected in either the first or second round of the NFL Draft. He joins Antoine Winfield, Jr as a second round selection from the Gopher secondary—who ideally will have the same impact in New York that AWJ has has had in Tampa Bay.

Since 2020 the Gophers have had five members of their secondary drafted. Nubin in 2024, Jordan Howden and Terrell Smith both in 2023, Benjamin St. Juste in 2021, and Winfield in 2020. Nubin is the third highest Gopher defensive player drafted since 2015 with only Winfield and Boye Mafe selected higher.

Nubin will join former teammate center John-Michael Schmitz and fellow former Gopher defensive stud Carter Coughlin in the blue and white of the Giants. Congrats to Tyler as he hopefully becomes the next NFL star to have worn the maroon and gold!
