Colorado Avalanche at Los Angeles Kings odds, picks and predictions

The Colorado Avalanche (15-6-2) take on the Los Angeles Kings (13-4-3) Sunday at Arena. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Kings odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Avs dropped a Saturday night showdown with the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 in a shootout. They have lost 2 in a row to lesser foes in the Ducks and Arizona Coyotes, which came Thursday night. Both required OT, and now they have to lace them up 24 hours later against a tough, physical team.

The Kings have been chillin since their 2-1 loss against the Washington Capitals Wednesday. The L snapped a 5-game winning streak. It could have been a case of them looking ahead to this matchup, which means they may be extra motivated to melt the Avs.

Avalanche at Kings projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (13-5-1, 2.89 GAA, .897 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Cam Talbot (10-4-1, 2.02 GAA, .928 SV%, 1 SO)

Georgiev stopped 29 of 32 shots in the overtime loss to the Coyotes Thursday. He beat the Kings in the season opener and stopped 34 of 36 shots fired his way. The team will rely heavily on him to keep them in it with tired legs in their 3rd game in 72 hours.

Talbot was rock solid in the month of November, allowing just 13 goals in 8 starts for a 1.64 GAA and .941 SV%. He allowed 4 goals in one of those starts and didn’t allow more than 2 the rest of the month. He stopped 32 of 36 shots in the season opener against Colorado

Avalanche at Kings picks and predictions

Kings 4, Avalanche 2

This is a rare chance to catch the Avs at plus-money, but don’t take the carrot. They have the talent to win this game, but they just played 2 overtime games Thursday and Saturday and could have tired legs in the last game of their road trip. The Kings are rested and quietly lead the league with 3.85 goals per game. They’re also 2nd in the league with 2.35 goals allowed per game. Talbot has also been standing on his head. There is a lot of momentum for the price.

Take the KINGS -135.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Kings are 12-8 on the puck line and 5-6 at home this season. They have 7 wins over the last 10 games, and 6 of them came by multiple goals. It’s a little risky because Colorado has won 8 of the last 10 meetings, but I like the value and the circumstances for KINGS -1.5 (+180).

We’re projecting a push here at 6 goals so I’m going in another direction. The Avs have scored at least 3 goals in 10 straight games. LA has a great defense, but I still think the Avs are good for 2.
