Boys basketball: There are 15 candidates for Varsity 845 player of the week



Online voting for the Varsity 845 boys basketball player of the week for February 5-11 is now open. Go to and vote as often as you like until 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 17 (no computer bot voting, please).

Nominations are pulled from reports to Varsity 845 and other sources. Players from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties are eligible. One player per school is permitted during each week.

With 15 candidates this week, we decided to split the vote into large and small schools.

The winner will be announced via X / Twitter @Varsity845. Previous winners can become eligible again once the postseason has begun. Isaiah Boucher of Port Jervis, Trai Kaufmann of Eldred and C.K. Pearson of Monroe-Woodbury, Christopher DeNatale of Marlboro, Robert Lawrence of Pine Bush and Aidan Johnston of Livingston Manor, Thomas Benfer of Marlboro and Matt Giglio of Tuxedo were the first eight winners.

Varsity 845 boys basketball player of week candidates (large)

Elijah Abrams, Kingston

He scored 15 points in the Tigers’ 82-66 loss to Green Tech on Feb. 8. He had 14 points in a 63-61 win over Monroe-Woodbury on Feb. 5.

Christian Brown, Monticello

He scored 20 points to lead the Panthers to a 49-25 win over Goshen on Feb. 8. He had 15 points in a 56-43 win over Minisink on Feb. 6.

Jack Demetriow, Cornwall

He scored 19 points in the Dragons’ 58-53 setback to Minisink Valley on Feb. 9.

Christopher DeNatale, Marlboro

He scored 15 points as the Dukes beat O’Neill 57-37 on Feb. 10. A night earlier, he scored 13 points in a 63-59 win over Red Hook.

Nick Sanchez, Monroe-Woodbury

He scored 16 points as the Crusaders fell to Green Tech 74-50 on Feb. 10.

Aiden Sullivan, Washingtonville

He scored 21 points in the Wizards’ 55-47 win over Goshen on Feb. 6.

Dylan Williams, Minisink Valley

He scored 23 points and added four rebounds, four steals and three assists in the Warriors’ 58-53 win over Cornwall on Feb. 9.

Latrell Willis, Warwick

He scored 17 points in the Wildcats’ 64-35 win over Goshen on Feb. 9.

Andre Jenkins, Chester

He scored 19 points in the Hambletonians’ 60-28 win over Livingston Manor on Feb. 9. A night earlier, he had 16 points in a 51-38 win over O’Neill. He had 14 points in a 43-39 win over Burke Catholic on Feb. 6.

Jason Kinscy, Ellenville

He posted 23 points and 10 assists as the Blue Devils beat Onteora 93-46 on Feb. 10.

Jake Maendel, Mount Academy

He posted 25 points and eight rebounds as the Mount fell to Ellenville 86-63 on Feb. 9.

Boe Mueller, Tri-Valley

He hit five 3-pointers and scored 15 for the Bears in a 74-48 win over Sullivan West on Feb. 6.

Jack O’Boyle, Burke Catholic

He scored 15 points, closing in on 1,000 for his career, as the Eagles fell to Chester 43-39 on Feb. 6.

Nick Perez, S.S. Seward

He poured in 41 points as the Spartans toppled Eldred 86-62 on Feb. 6.

Noah Stern, Onteora

He scored 17 points in Onteora’s 56-31 win over Pine Plains on Feb. 9.
